When Ed Mangano first ran for County Executive in 2009 he lied to the unions, promising that he would help them. The unions believed him and because of the unions he was elected County Executive in 2009 by just 300 votes. Less than a year later in 2010 he went back on his word and started going after the Unions.
When Ed Mangano first became County Executive the county's budget was in order. Everybody was getting paid and enough revenue was coming in to continue to balance the budget from what Tom Suozzi put in place. But Mangano could not have this. He had to figure out a way to bust the Unions. He could not do it with a balanced budget and could not do it on his own. He removed the energy tax and bunch of other taxes and said he was doing this to "protect the tax payers." That's the next biggest lie to Obama's Obamacare promise. By removing a bunch of taxes it created a deficit which would force Nifa to take over the county's finances. By doing this Nifa froze all county workers contracts causing the workers to be stuck at whichever pay level they were on. Many workers are at pay level salaries that are not suitable enough to live on Long Island.
This gave Ed the opportunity to make a war against unions and force them to concede to his demands. During election 2013 he had Maragos, Nassau County's Comptroller fudge the books to make it look like a balanced budget with a surplus, and continued his falsehood lie of "protecting the tax payers" to win reelection.
When the unions took him to federal court because Ed broke a legal binding contract the federal judge ruled in the unions favor. Nifa claimed it was a state issue and should be settled in a state court. They appealed it and last week the State court said Nifa is right. This is just a good old example of New York State corrupt politics.
The bottom line is this Mangano caused the budget problems in Nassau County for his own political gain and to use it as a tactic for union busting. Taxpayers, your not important to Ed at all.
Oh by the way Mangano gave Kaiman the head of Nifa a Sandy relief job which paid $150,000. Welcome to corrupt communism in the United States.
